6A Don’t Give Up!
Throughout life, everyone faces challenges that are not easy to overcome. It happens to all of us, we have to overcome many obstacles throughout our lifetime. Throughout my lifetime I have faced many challenges. These challenges ranged from very small challenges to challenges that were very hard to overcome. One of my more difficult challenges was during my junior year of high school.
I was so nervous going into junior year because everyone I talked to would say “good luck junior year with all the work and SAT work.” Every time someone brought up junior year they would say how hard it was and how it was the worst year work wise. Ever since middle school one of the subjects I struggled with the most was history. I was always the type of student who liked math and working with numbers. History was just so boring to me and I was never good at just memorizing a bunch of material. I took US History during my junior year of high school. I really did not want to take this course but I had to in order to graduate. Luckily I had a very good History teacher but I still struggled in the class. I was stressed right away when we got our first tests back and I saw that I failed. After getting my first test back I tried to stay after with my teacher in advance when a test was coming up. My teacher noticed how hard I worked in his class and how I always stayed after with him before a test. Staying after definitely helped me because my test scores improved each time. Although I am not satisfied with getting 70s my scores were still improving and my teacher was happy with the way I was working.
The part that I was most nervous for was having to take the regents test at the end of the year. I was never good at taking multiple choice tests because I would always second guess myself and then end up picking the wrong answer. My teacher knew how nervous I was for the test so he just told me to come to all of his review sessions. I really wanted to do well on this test and I told myself that I was going to get in the 80s. My teacher told me that I was going to study my butt off and get a 90. I knew right away that there was no way that I was going to do that but I just agreed with my teacher. Before the test I took a bunch of practice tests and went to my teacher for help almost everyday. After taking the test I thought I did well but I was still nervous to see my score. Sure enough all of my hard work paid off and I ended up getting a 92 on the test. My teacher and my parents were so proud of me, as was I. I never thought I would get a 92 on my US regents but I was happier than ever. This goes to show that if you are faced with a challenge you should never give up and tell yourself that you can do it!
